Outside Event: Verbal De-escalation Training

The Purdue University Police Department is offering free verbal de-escalation training in October.
The training sessions will consist of a two-hour PowerPoint presentation. The objective is to teach attendees skills and strategies for remaining calm and reacting more effectively when confronted with anger to reduce the chance of escalation to physical aggression. It includes exercises involving body language and posturing and empathetic verbal language. Verbal de-escalation skills can be helpful both personally and professionally.
An online session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon ET Oct. 23 via Zoom.
In-person sessions will be held:
- Monday, Oct. 21, 1-3 p.m. ET, Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine (LYNN) Room G155, 625 Harrison St.
- Monday, Oct. 28, 9:30-11:30 a.m. ET, PHYS 238.
These are all duplicate sessions, so participants should register for only one.

The minimum age for participants is 18. Affiliation with Purdue is not required to register.
