Outside Event: The Data Mine Lunch and Learn with Mikaela Meyer

Dr. Mikaela Meyer graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Mathematical Statistics and a minor in Political Science. She was selected as Indiana’s 2017 Truman Scholar, a national award that recognizes a student’s commitment to public service. During her time at Purdue, Mikaela participated in the Data Mine’s predecessor (the Statistics Living-Learning Community), the Honors College, College Democrats, and the debate team.

After graduating from Purdue, Mikaela went on to earn her MS in Statistics and Ph.D. in Statistics and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University with support from a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP). Her dissertation focused on applying statistical methods to answer questions about the U.S. criminal legal system.

She is currently a data scientist at the MITRE Corporation, which operates a number of federally funded research and development centers. At MITRE, Mikaela has worked on projects ranging from data privacy to AI safety.
