Outside Event Opportunity: The ASA DataFest at Purdue
Start
End
Description
The ASA DataFest at Purdue is 5 weeks away! (This can be your Outside Event #3 if you want to!)
Many students over the years told me that the ASA DataFest is their most enjoyable weekend of the year. It has been a Purdue tradition since 2015.
It also provides a great story/example to discuss during interviews and/or in graduate school applications.
(This is eligible to be your Outside Event #3 if you want to!)
(Students are not required to be in The Data Mine to join. Any undergraduate students are eligible!)
Students receive a dataset on Friday evening, April 5, and then can work during the weekend with a team of up to 5 undergraduate students, to see what they can discover about the data. On the afternoon of Sunday, April 7, the students make very short presentations about what they discover about the data.
We give 3 "top" awards at the DataFest: Best In Show, Best Visualization, Best Use of Outside Data.
