Description

On September 18th at 2:00 p.m., Purdue's Program on American Institutional Renewal (PAIR) is proud to welcome one of the country's pre-eminent experts on the U.S. Constitution, Professor John Feerick (Dean Emeritus, Fordham Law School), for a lecture and discussion on presidential succession and fitness for office. Perhaps more than at any point since President Lyndon Johnson's succession of John F. Kennedy, these topics have drawn considerable attention in today's discourse. In addition to concerns over politician age and vitality, some have argued that the 25th Amendment--which specifies a plan of succession for the presidency--can and should be invoked proactively, in response to concerns over presidential leadership.

Professor Feerick aided Constitutional trailblazer and proud Purdue alumnus, Senator Birch Bayh, in drafting the 25th Amendment, and his book on the amendment is now in its third edition. PAIR invites all in the Purdue community to celebrate Constitution Day with us, learning more about this important Constitutional topic--and the storied Purdue graduate who made it all possible.

*Light refreshments available after the lecture.

**This event counts toward Purdue students' civic literacy requirements for 2023-24.
