Talk abstract: Think about how you interact with analytical software. Do you gladly use it to analyze small data sets? Do you complain when manipulating large data sets? Are you frustrated about the time it takes for the software to respond? Do you stop asking "What If" questions of your data because you aren't willing to wait for answers? I will give 3 concrete examples of how GPU-enabled software can deliver a ten-thousand-fold acceleration over existing CPU based approaches.

Brief Bio: I am a 1983 graduate of Purdue with bachelor degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics. I have worked in areas like inventory optimization and computer graphics. For the past 20 years I have worked in life science at Beckman Coulter. In 2013 I went back and got my Masters degree in Computer Science from Purdue. In 2017 I started my PhD in Computer Science. These days I apply high performance GPU computing to problems in cancer research and bioinformatics.
